Peace and Serenity .  These are the words that best describe the views from The River's Edge.  Whether watching the river boats and barges go by, or observing the abundant wildlife - cardinals, indigo buntings, seagulls, pelicans, deer, racoons, and (bald eagles - during the winter), sit and relax.  Get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The River's Edge Bed & Breakfast Inn was originally built as a private residence by E. Carroll Taber, a second- generation lumberman.  The home was built in 1915, just two years after the completion of the great dam.  There was a smaller house at this site, and the Taber family built their mansion over the foundation of that home built in the 1850's.  The original foundation is still visible under the main floor of the mansion.  Drive for miles along the scenic Mississippi.  Enjoy a relaxing visit at the River's Edge ....

The Inn is perched high on a bluff with a magnificent view of the Mississippi river .  It is the only Bed & Breakfast for miles with river frontage.  This stately Tudor Renaissance mansion offers elegance and comfort, with large, spacious rooms.  The Inn is located along the "Miracle Mile" one the most prestigious  streets in Keokuk Iowa.   Personal tours of some of the magnificent old homes are available.  Visit nearby Nauvoo Illinois , and Hannibal Missouri, just a few miles away.

The Nauvoo Pageant celebrates the legacy of early Latter-day Saints whose faith brought them to a swampy bend of the Mississippi River. Narrated by Parley P. Pratt, the pageant emphasizes the prophetic mission of Joseph Smith and honors the sacrifice, faith, and courage of the Saints who gave their all to build a city and a temple. The pageant is filled with authentic hymns and folksongs, lively dances, and tender moments that share the joy these early Saints found. Through words taken from journals, sermons, and historic records of the period, the pageant invites all to feel the powerful testimonies of these faithful Saints. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday nights at 8:45 p.m. with pre-show activities beginning at 7:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
